What is physical therapy?

Physiotherapy (also known as physical therapy) is a health profession concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of disease and disability through physical means. It is based upon principles of medical science, and is generally held to be within the sphere of conventional (rather than alternative) medicine.

How long will it take?

Your first visit will take between 1 and 1.5 hours. Later vists will take from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on your particular treatment regimen.

How many times will I have to come?

How many sessions you will need depends on your injury/diagnosis, your personal recovery rate, and your diligence in doing your homework (i.e. home exercises, medications, therapies).

How often will I need to come?

2-3 times per week is recommended by most physicians.

How much will it cost?

Most insurance companies pay all or part of physical therapy needs. We will contact your insurance company at your first visit to verify coverage.

How should I dress for therapy?

Comfortable clothing! If you are receiving lower extremity treatments, we encourage shorts. Please bring a bathing suit if your treatment includes pool therapy. You are welcome to bring a change of clothing.

How do I make an appointment?

Call us at 806-792-5522 or come by our office. Our friendly office staff will schedule your appointment at the earliest most convenient time possible, often on the same day. Follow-up visits can be scheduled in advance when you come in for your initial evaluation.

How do I cancel an appointment?

Please call us as soon as you realize that you won't make your scheduled appointment. We prefer to reschedule your appointment for a different time on the same day, if there is an available time slot. This will keep you on track with your therapy regimen.

What happens if I treat myself or delay treatment?

When your body is injured it immediately tries to start healing itself. Severe internal issues can occur if the correct treatment program by your physician or physical therapist is delayed. In some instances where patients have started self treatment or delayed treatment, the injury becomes more severe due to inflammation, scar tissue, or development of abnormal movement patterns. All of these can increase pain and/or increase recovery time.
